Happy 6-month birthday, Baby Gabe!

His parents are still suffering from allergies, but Baby Gabe marches on.  Sometimes, we wish we could be as adaptable and as pleasant as he is.

Picnic in the park

We had a picnic in Griffith Park yesterday to celebrate Nyella’s first birthday.  She was born exactly 6 months before Gabriel.  While his parents suffered from some allergies, Baby Gabe enjoyed himself.  As you can see from the first picture, he really is a chick magnet — even when he’s sleeping.

Cute, happy, alert

Cute, happy, and alert are the three most common adjectives people have used to describe Baby Gabe.  At first, we thought it was because they haven’t been around babies this young in a long time.  After all, we wondered what baby isn’t cute, happy, and alert at this age?  They sleep, eat, poop, and play.  What better life is there?  Well, this past week was Baby Gabe’s first in day care.  We were a little worried because this would be the first time he’d be away from his mom and dad for so long.  But we worried for nothing.  His day care provider, Marcia, took him out his car seat in the morning and remarked how cute he was.  Over the next 8 hours, he laughed, played, ate, and napped.  At the end of the day, Marcia remarked how happy and alert he was at this age.  Most kids have a rough time the first few days being away from mom and dad.  So we figured she’s been around a lot more babies than we have, and if she said so, it must be so.  We should make a T-shirt for him:  Cute, happy, and alert.  Now if only he would sleep past dawn….

Some pics from Hawaii

Baby Gabe has proven himself to be an excellent traveler.  He’s quite happy on the plane, and he doesn’t suffer from any of that “jetlag” nonsense.  He met a lot of his relatives on his dad’s side of the family at his early 6 month birthday party.  Well, we advertised it as a birthday party, but really it was just a party to have a family gathering to meet the newest addition to the extended clan.  His grandparents were especially happy to see Baby Gabe again.  He seems to have that effect on a lot of people.  See Baby Gabe’s mom’s Picasa album in the “More Photos” link at the top of the page for more pictures of our vacation.

Baby Gabe is learning new things every day, including this Taiwanese phrase.

Off the grid

It feels liberating to go on a vacation and have no reasonable access to the internet.  But we’re back now with lots of new photos and some videos.  Baby Gabe made the 5.5 hour trip to Hawaii to visit his Yeh-Yeh and Ngin-Ngin and have an early 6-month birthday party so he could meet all his paternal relatives.  Except for the heat and humidity, it seemed like he had a blast.  More photos to come.
